Why should I use an oscillating fan in my grow space?

An oscillating fan will cause air movement helping to keep the area cool and controlling humidity on the plant and dew point within your grow space. Air movement across the plant will ultimately reduce the leaf surface temperature. When leaf surface temperatures exceed 75°F, the plant enters a protection mode and begins to compensate for perceived drought. When a plant is in this protection mode it does not take in required nutrients and water because it is preserving energy. Circulating air will help eliminate higher leaf surface temperatures and will keep your plant in optimum nutrient uptake mode.

Oscillating fans will also help the dew point in your grow area fluctuate. A stagnant dew point is the main catalyst for the growth of powdery mildew. Controlling your dew point with an oscillating fan will reduce the risk of powdery mildew growth.

What is an inline fan used for?

An inline fan is designed for use in ventilation systems to boost airflow. They mount directly inline with your ducting system to create efficient and quiet air movement for either supplying air to an area or exhausting air from an area. Hurricane Inline Fans are also designed to work in conjunction with Phresh Filters and can be used to air-cool reflectors used in hydroponic applications.

How do I control Hurricane Fans?

Each Hurricane fan is unique in its indivdual controls. The controls for Hurricane Classic and Supreme wall mount fans, floor fans, stand fans and clip fans are located on the units and are simple to use. The Hurricane Super 8 Fan can be programmed and operated with the buttons on the control panel, or with the included remote control. For Hurricane Centrifugal Inline Fans and the After Burner Mixed Flow Fans, we recommend using Titan Controls Fan Speed & Ventilation Controllers.

What does CFM mean?

CFM is the acronym for Cubic Feet per Minute – the measure of air volume moved by the fan blower. Choose a fan with a CFM rating appropriate for your room size and application to ensure adequate airflow.

How to I know what CFM rating to choose?

It is important to use a fan with the proper CFM rating for your application. There are several factors to consider when determining which fan will be best for you. Some of these factors include ambient outdoor temperature, use of a CO2 generator, dehumidifier and/or air conditioner, whether or not your reflectors are air-cooled and more. You will also want to evaluate your individual application for using an inline fan.

Can I exhaust my fan into my attic or garage?

No. Never exhaust your fan into an enclosed space.

 

Can I use a smaller diameter duct than what the fan is designed for?

This is not recommended. Using ducting with a lesser diameter than the design of the fan will cause the fan to run harder, greatly reducing CFM performance and overall effciency. It will also create excess noise.
